Meet the Team
The relationship that formed Mountain Top Engineering started long before the company would be formed. Lets go back a ways to 2013.
Adam Nixon and Simon Melonas became friends in 2013 while studying at Texas Tech University. Sharing some classes and interests outside of school, a lasting friendship was formed.
After college, Adam stayed in Lubbock, working for a private firm before accepting a City of Lubbock engineering job in 2016.
In 2020, Simon reached out to Adam regarding job openings at the City of Lubbock. Upon doing an interview with the City, Simon accepted the job and would soon call Lubbock home.
July 2021, Adam initiated an engineering venture, collaborating with Delta Land Surveying to establish Delta Engineering. Shortly after, and with success coming in a big wave, Simon, seeking to move into the private engineering sector, joined Adam at Delta Engineering.
As early 2024 rolled around, things changed, Adam had found a separate venture to dive into and Simon was looking forward to becoming a licensed engineer, the opportunity to start their own firm was here and the time was now or never. Betting on themselves and the relationships they formed, in April 2024 Mountain Top Engineering was formed. Not easy at times, the duo has always led with their strong foot forward, always answering the calls and giving their work the attention it needs to ensure the success of the company.

Adam Nixon was born in Midland, Texas, and spent his younger years in Idalou, Texas. He pursued his higher education at Texas Tech University, where he participated in the Texas Tech Goin Band. Upon completing his academic journey, he graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Civil Engineering, promptly embarking on his professional career at AMD Engineering in Lubbock, Texas. In 2016, Adam transitioned to the City of Lubbock Engineering, where he assumed the role of project manager overseeing numerous multi-million-dollar capital improvement projects. His adept management skills and dedication led to significant accomplishments within the organization. In 2021, Adam seized a new opportunity at Delta Land Surveying in Lubbock, where he played a pivotal role in establishing Delta Engineering. He remained instrumental in fostering the growth of Delta Engineering until his departure in January 2024. Outside his professional endeavors, Adam cherishes spending quality time with his wife and three children. He frequently escapes to the mountains of New Mexico and enjoy activities such as camping, biking, and hiking. Additionally, he actively serves as a board member for Camp Monakiwa, located west of Las Vegas, NM.
Simon Melonas, P.E.

Simon Melonas was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, and after graduating from high school, he sought to expand his horizons by attending college in another state. From 2010 to 2015, he studied at Texas Tech, earning his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. After completing his college education, he worked for two years as a project engineer in Dallas. Following this, he decided to change things up and alongside his parents for three years flipping homes in Las Vegas. However, in late 2019, it became apparent that flipping was becoming less and less desirable, he felt compelled to return to his academic field and accepted a position at the City of Lubbock, in the Capital Improvement Projects Engineering department. He joined the Delta Engineering team in March 2022. Simon obtained his Civil Engineer license in 2024 and maintains licensure in Texas and Montana. When he's not focused on his professional pursuits, he enjoys getting out on his dirt bike, riding enduro and motocross. When he is not riding his bike, he is designing and fabricating one off parts, performing maintenance and making sure that the next ride is better than the last.
